Simple is Good

Excellent use of strong type and simple design by Tom Crawshaw, a Britain-based designer (picked up from AisleOne, one of my favorite design sites).
There’s a lot to be said for simplicity. Generally speaking, if a project’s design elements are well-developed (type, paper, color, spacing), the resulting design will reap the benefits. Tom proved it here with a sophisticated, yet modern design.

One of my ‘09 goals was to blog more – and more specifically – to display more of my design concepts. To that end, here are a few teaser poster concepts I designed at Hart-Boillot for a now-defunct incentive trip. Take a look at how one of the posters might look in a bus station environment.

Here are some quick poster concepts I did for an upcoming Hart-Boillot/AIGA event. Originally, the event was scheduled around tax time – hence, the tax reference. When the date changed, I did a more general layout targeted at the design community.

- Q-Tip: The Renaissance

- The man from A Tribe Called Quest kills it on his first solo album in a decade. Great production, great lyrics, great album.
- Evidence: The Layover

- One half of the rapping duo of Dilated Peoples, Evidence continues to storm through the hip-hop world with this LP.
- Kid Cudi: A Kid Named Cudi

- Cudi's mixtape, full of spacey hip-hop beats, paves the way for his upcoming summer release, Man on the Moon: The Guardians.
- Ryan Leslie: Ryan Leslie

- This producer/performer releases his first solo album to great reviews love his live-instrument sound.
- Coldplay: Viva la Vida

- Another great album full of unique sounds and incredible vocals - a slam dunk of an album.
- Trust Me

- A TV show about an advertising firm! That alone hooked me. This well-written show offers plenty of situations with which I can realte.
- Damages

- Glenn Close is awesome in this dramatic legal thriller. Another FX Show knocks it out of the park.
- The Shield

- Best. Show. Ever. Michael Chiklis leads an incredible cast in my all-time favorite show. Season 7 is the last!
- The Wire

- HBO's answer to the cop drama - incredibly dense and incredibly addictive. The ensemble cast is top-notch.
